Math Movies and Market Day

Market Day Friday, October 30th
Our very first Market Day will take place this Friday.  We like to think of this as a big, kid garage sale!  Students may choose to sell things, buy things, or both.  Students who wish to sell things can bring in items such as: small toys they might find after cleaning out their drawers, books, inexpensive Dollar Store items, pencils, or individual healthy treats.  (No candy please; they will get enough for Halloween).  They will be able to purchase things from each other using the Peacock Pride Bucks that they have been earning in the classroom.  Please save your items and bring them no earlier than the 30th of October.  Market day is one of my favorite days of the year, as I will be finished with my awesome training, I can't wait.

Howland Hill

Our class has been working on adding sums to 20, subtraction, and story problems.  Here are a few of the problems we did in class.  Look for some familiar names, take note of who wrote the story problem, who is in the problem, and who solved the equation.

Adrian’s Story Problem
Tanner has 100 candy bars. He gives some to Charlie.  Tanner now has 50 candy bars.  How many candy bars did Tanner give to Charlie?
Avery’s Equation  100 - 50 = 50

Bliss’s Story Problem
Rose has 8 dice.  She gives away 4 dice to Hadley.  How many does Rose have now?
Aurora’s Equation  8 -   4=4

Tatum’s Story Problem
Rose has 100 candy bars.  She gives some to Tatum.  Now she has 20.  How many candy bars does she have now?
Rose’s Equation 100 - 20 = 80

Dylan’s Story Problem
Neeko has 50 candy bars.  He gave away 6 candy bars to Bria.  How many candy bars does Neeko have left?
Neeko’s Equation  50 -6 = 44

Charlie’s Story Problem
Grandma Carolyn has 1,000 candy bars.  She gives Lillianna 800.  How many does she have now?
Logan’s Equation  1,000 - 800 = 200

Kenzie’s Story Problem
Tatum has 18 marbles.  She gives 9 to Bliss.  How many are left?
Carson’s Equation 18 - 9 = 9

Natalie’s Story Problem
Bria has 10 candy bars.  She gives 5 to Rosie.  How many does she have left?
Bria’s Equation  10 - 5 = 5
